#TakeoverTuesday with IDW Publishing
Nov 20, 2019 - Heather Dewis
Many people know that San Diego is home to a famous Comic-Con International, but did you know that it’s also home to one of the most renowned comic book publishers in the United States? With some of the most successful licensed titles in the industry (think Hasbro’s Transformers and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Adventures) and more than 80 titles on The New York Times bestseller list, IDW Publishing has made a name for itself and for San Diego within the pop culture space. IDW also works closely with sister companies that focus on tabletop gaming, multimedia entertainment, and art exhibition.
We’re lucky enough to go behind the scenes during this week’s #TakeoverTuesday on the @SDlifechanging Instagram. Here, IDW takes us on a tour of its Liberty Station workspace, where the creative magic happens. We even get to meet the folks behind the stories – like Tom, manager of creative development and senior editor, who works on titles like G.I. Joe, Ghostbusters, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.
But the best part of working in comics for a living? Doing it in San Diego. Marketing design assistant Johanna’s favorite part about IDW’s location is its easy access to the Liberty Station Public Market at lunch (Taco Tuesday every week!). Chase, an editor at IDW, loves San Diego because “it’s got a nice, laid-back attitude. It’s an easy town to live in.” After work, the possibilities are endless. IDW’s team writes and draws, plays in rock bands, and explores San Diego’s numerous events and attractions.
