We're back, North County. For the second year in a row, Innovate78 - through its Startup78 initiative - is proud to organize San Diego Startup Week North County Day. It's all happening on June 2.
Innovate78 is a collaboration between the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos, and Vista to retain, expand and attract talent, companies and investment along the 78 Corridor. Recognizing the growth opportunities that exist along the corridor, in 2018, Startup78 was launched to unite and amplify the resources available to entrepreneurs in North County. Startup78 is a vehicle that aims to help startups scale to become long-term, viable businesses that support our economy.
It started in 2012 as SD Tech Week. According to Startup Week, a few people hosted events around town, there was a startup crawl, and all said and done a few hundred people were accounted for and the organizers were already thinking of the next year’s Tech Week. Since then, a lot about SD Startup Week has changed, but the event has remained focused on its core mission: to promote and convene those involved in the startup community in San Diego.
But this was all happening in Downtown San Diego. At 4,526 square miles, the San Diego region is roughly the size of the state of Connecticut. And while there is a big entrepreneurship hub in downtown, North County also has its fair share of coworking spaces and companies. That's where Innovate78 came in. In 2018, organizers decided to add North County programming to San Diego Startup Week. More than 300 people turned out. So, we're doing it again.
An action-packed day awaits at SD Startup Week, North County Day. The festivities are all happening at make - the site of tech giants including Walmart Labs, GoPro, and more, in Carlsbad.
