Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Bartow.
Melissa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Bay Area Born, San Diego Educated, Silicon Valley tested, and now San Diego THRIVING.
7 years ago UC San Diego brought me to this amazing beach town, where I captained the Women’s water polo team. Three NCAA Division I championship appearances later, I helped turn the program into a respected national competitor.
Immediately after soaking in every second as a Triton, I took my diploma up to Silicon Valley and began working at a “brand name” company. The underdog spirit I epitomized as an athlete came alive in my career, I yearned to learn what it was like to BUILD a “brand name” company.
I took a leap of faith and moved (back) to San Diego from Silicon Valley to jumpstart my tech career and started as employee number 10 (Women #3) at a startup founded by UC San Diego alumni. Now I am the customer champion at Measurabl, a software company that makes sustainability something companies can easily measure.
While my job is what got me back here, it is the strong tech and athlete community that will keep me here. When I’m not driving customer success at work, I am rising & grinding with SD groups like @novemberprojectsd & @milestonerunning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From transforming the market to understand the financial benefits of sustainability to growing the San Diego tech and athlete community – nothing worth sharing is ever smooth. But by thriving off the amazing community and breaking rules, I have learned that though the road may not always be smooth, it’s well worth the ride.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Measurabl – what should we know?
Do well, by doing good. The market has signaled that sustainability will drive performance, but how does a company measure, manage, and report on this? Measurabl has become the answer, making us the world’s fastest-growing enterprise energy and sustainability software.
I LOVE my days at Measurabl because I empower and educate the +2,000 Measurabl users across 67 countries to take advantage of this new era of data-driven action and drive results. Technology plays a central role in the overarching solution to a sustainable world and we are just getting started.
We aspire to quantify the most fundamental question about sustainability: “How much does it drive asset value?
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
RISE and GRIND. Rise = sunrise athlete, chasing new challenges. Grind = lady techie, solving real problems.
I am laser focused on the people I surround myself with and the challenges I dive in to solve. Teamwork makes the dream work.
