The summer party of the year is just around the corner, and we’re ready to celebrate with you, San Diego. But first, here’s a quick recap to get you up to speed on what’s happened the last two years with San Diego: Life. Changing & Summer Bash…
San Diego Regional EDC launched the SD: Life. Changing. campaign, with the goal of attracting and retaining talent in the region by celebrating the smart and innovative people that call this place home. Since the campaign’s inception, we’ve won an award, brewed our very own Made in San Diego craft beer with Ballast Point Brewing, and spotlighted a plethora of local companies via #TakeoverTuesday, blog posts, San Diego at Work video series, and much more.
Now onto the party…
For the last two years, with the help of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., we’ve also hosted an epic party and celebrated the campaign with 300+ of our closest friends. On August 1, we’re back for year three of Summer Bash.
To kick off the evening festivities, guests will get a quick update on the SD: Life. Changing campaign – where we’re at now and what’s up next. Essentially, we’ll be sharing all the details on how we’re leveraging San Diego’s brand in order to attract and retain talent in our glorious region. Plus, there are some inspiring leaders lined up for this part of the program, including a special keynote from Jeff Lunsford, CEO & President at Tealium.

Who is Jeff Lunsford?
A guy with some serious San Diego street cred. Tealium has made some money moves with its latest funding round as they get closer to that highly coveted ‘unicorn’ status. Plus, Jeff’s a former naval aviator with more than two decades in the tech world and a Linkedin profile picture of him catching some waves. Does it get more San Diego than that?
A truly life-changing reception mixed with live entertainment.
For the rest of the evening, it’s all about enjoying delicious food, great drinks, and true San Diego experiences, in celebration of SD: Life. Changing. The food options will be thoughtfully prepared by local celebrity chef Brian Malarkey and showcase Cali Baja cross-border, internationally-inspired cuisines. Here’s the full menu:
-Wood Yu whole-roasted pig bao buns
-Green Acre elote on the grill with cotija, crema, tajin, and cilantro
-Farmer melon and cucumber salad with lime, mint, queso fresco, sunflower seeds, and olive oil
-Animae house-made Spam musubi with whiso and pineapple gochujang jam
-Herb & Sea Baja shrimp cocktail served with homemade saltine crackers
Plus, with more than 140 craft beer destinations in our region, we’re lining up some local beverages, including JuneShine Hard Kombucha and Ballast Point Brewing.
All food and drink offerings will be paired with live entertainment by a deconstructed jazz band placed throughout the venue and The Ryan Hiller Band, a musician full of funk, soul, and a whole lot of rock n’ roll (pictured below). It’s the perfect pairing you won’t want to miss.
Life-changing prizes, giveaways, and swag bags
We’re pulling out all the stops to help you score some life-changing items at our live auction, including stuff you can only get at this event. From memorable Padres baseball experiences and a special San Diego-made Taylor Guitar to an autonomous companion robot by Sony called ‘aibo,’ all proceeds from the auction will help support and fund San Diego: Life. Changing.
If the auction isn’t your thing, don’t worry. Each guest will receive a special SD: Life. Changing. tote bag and Padres collaboration hat, so everyone goes home a winner from Summer Bash.
