Ladies Who Paint: Mural Walk in East Village
Oct 03, 2019 - Bernadine Locsin
With the Pacific Ocean in our backyard, disgustingly perfect weather, and stunning concoctions from award-winning chefs, it’s common knowledge that San Diego has “insta-worthy” views for days. One thing we’re not really known for, however, is street art. With the exception of Chicano Park in Barrio Logan and perhaps a few walls in North Park and downtown, the exteriors of San Diego’s buildings have plenty of bare, unused real estate to spare. Lucky for us, the fierce all-female crew from Ladies Who Paint is about to change that.
Ladies Who Paint
Ladies Who Paint is a nonprofit dedicated to creating lasting impact on the San Diego community through the use of public murals created by international and local female muralists, while empowering women in the artistic industry and beyond. Talk about a win-win. From September 28 to October 5 (yes, it’s happening now!), twelve female artists will be giving downtown San Diego the makeover of its dreams in the first all-female mural walk. Sprinkled throughout East Village, these badass muralists will be painting masterpieces that to exude San Diego’s dedication to the arts and a culture that represents equality and fairness for all. See map below for details. And don’t you worry. If you can’t make it, you can catch some of the action on our Instagram Stories tomorrow (October 4) afternoon!
Help them help San Diego
As a nonprofit organization, Ladies Who Paint is able to do all this because of donations from companies and people like you. They are leading a movement to empower the women in their industry, while making San Diego a more beautiful place to live. One of their founders says, “We want to show that San Diego is more than just tacos and beaches.” If this mission is important to you, consider making a tax-deductible donation that will provide funding for the artists’ transportation, food/drink, housing, and mural supplies.
