How often does a suburb become a foodie hot spot? Almost never. Well, nibble on this: You’ll cruise La Mesa Boulevard deciding between French comfort food (Bo Beau Kitchen and Garden), gastropub eats (Curbside Eatery & Drinkery), inventive tacos (City Tacos), rustic farm-to-fork fare (Farmer’s Table), and all the yummies in between.

HOW will you spend your time?

Cruising La Mesa Boulevard, the four-block social hub of this lively small town. Don’t be surprised if you run into your neighbors, your dentist, and your daughter’s school teacher while sipping pour-over coffee. Afterwards, get some cardio in by climbing the La Mesa Secret Stairs (now not-so-secret thanks to social media) that snakes through the neighborhood or by making the 1.5 mile climb to the top of Cowles Mountain, where you’ll find one of San Diego’s best views.

WHY you’ll love living here?

Locals are most proud of their sun-kissed status. La Mesa lies about 20 minutes east of the coastline and gets full rays sunup to sundown. Friends can visit easily. La Mesa is immediately off Interstate 8 and the San Diego Trolley stops right in the middle of town.  Hey, they don’t call this place the Jewel of the Hills for nothing.
