The Cabrillo National Monument and the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, located at one of the highest points of the peninsula, is on every tourist’s must-see list. Shelter Island (really an isthmus, but island sounds better) is home to Polynesian-themed hotels, chic resorts, and restaurants where you’ll watch cruise ships sailing by.

Point Loma is an unexpected spot for a hip food hall, but the Liberty Public Market found a home in Liberty Station, a former naval training site, now turned community of stores, restaurants, and schools. Arrive hungry; the Market boasts food purveyors selling everything from empanadas, to lobster rolls, to seafood gumbo. Point Loma is home to several fishing fleets and as a result serves up some of the best seafood in town – all fresh, all the time. Locals line up for the casual bites at Mitch’s Seafood and Point Loma Seafoods. Other spots bustle with enthusiastic diners, like the romantic Old Venice and Jimmy’s Famous Tavern.
HOW will you spend your time?
When you’re not sipping wine on your outdoor deck, soaking up views of the Pacific Ocean or San Diego Bay, you’ll be watching a movie at the luxury cinema, THE LOT. During low tide, explore the fascinating and protected tide pools located beneath Cabrillo National Monument. Come summer, you’ll hop on over to Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay on Shelter Island, where you’ll see artists like Rob Thomas, Alanis Morrisette, and Chris Isaak. Insider tip: Skip buying a ticket and instead rent a kayak and paddle next to the waterfront venue to watch the show for free.
