Del Mar
WHO will love living in Del Mar?
Health enthusiasts, retired athletes, and anyone who wants a taste of the glamorous lifestyle love living here. Del Mar is a suburb of San Diego County where the cost of living skews higher than other parts of San Diego, especially when it comes to real estate, but the views and the landscape can’t be beat, which makes the tradeoff worth it.
WHAT will you see?
It’s “where the surf meets the turf” and is known for being the host of the San Diego County Fair, Del Mar Races, and annual KAABOO music festival. Expect stunning scenery and throngs of tourists and residents alike, mainly during the summer season. When you need a break from all the action, a stroll through Del Mar Village is more low-key and emulates the feeling of a European-style community with art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants with ocean-view decks and pretty patio settings.
WHERE will you eat?
Jake’s Del Mar, Pacifica Del Mar, and Poseidon Restaurant have been longtime staples offering upscale cuisine, traditional cocktails, and a bird’s-eye view of the water. However, less expensive cafes and pizza joints also dot the area for those who want lunch in a more casual atmosphere. A good go-between of restaurant price points can be found at Flower Hill Promenade. This snazzy, outdoor shopping area includes yoga studios, salons, and popular places to eat like locally-sourced, organic-focused Flower Child and a modern Italian menu at Cucina Enoteca.
HOW will you spend your time?
Surfing, paddle boarding, and being a SoCal socialite is part of living your best life here. It’s less about the nightlife and more about making the most of the 72°-and-sunny weather. Whether that means a day at the races, an afternoon spent in the water, or a staycation at a nearby spa, you can soak up all the coastal delights in Del Mar.
WHY you’ll love living here?
It’s picture-perfect and a peaceful place to live even if the surrounding activity seems non-stop. It’s almost a halfway point between downtown and North County, which makes it easily accessible to both. But it’s rare to want to leave the area since it’s such a dream location, home of several San Diego traditions. When you add it all up, it’s rather nice to call this little slice of paradise home.
